On January 13-15, 2024, a government delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov, visited the Republic of Maldives, Azerbaijan MFA told APA.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov was received by the Vice President of the Maldives, Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
Additionally, a bilateral meeting was held between E. Mammadov and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.
During the meetings, the Maldivian side highly appreciated the Azerbaijani government delegation and discussed issues of mutual interest for both sides.
As part of the visit, the first political consultations were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives. The consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, and the Maldivian side was represented by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya. During the political consultations, the expansion of bilateral and multilateral political relations, the current state, and prospects of cooperation in areas such as economic trade, energy, logistics and transport, tourism, humanitarian issues, and other fields were discussed.
Cooperation between the two countries in international organizations was positively evaluated, and the importance of strengthening mutual support activities in multilateral formats was emphasized.
A briefing forum was organized for the members of the Azerbaijani government delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, State Tourism Agency, and companies operating in Azerbaijan. The forum was organized by relevant state bodies of the Maldives and numerous local companies.
During the forum, detailed presentations were made for the Azerbaijani delegation regarding investment opportunities in tourism, hospitality, transport, and other sectors in the Maldives, and productive discussions were held.
