On January 15, 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
According to a report, during the meeting, the parties discussed the priority areas of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the CICA for 2024-2026, current work within the organization and future prospects.
At the meeting, Azerbaijan's rich experience in multilateral diplomacy and successful chairmanships was highlighted and it was noted with satisfaction that the conceptual document submitted by Azerbaijan for the chairmanship of the SCO covers broad areas related to the future development of the organization, as well as strengthening cooperation and trust between countries.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Kazakhstan, as the author of the idea, played a significant role in the development of the organization. He noted the importance of further enhancing the international role and effectiveness of the organization, expanding practical benefits for member countries, and ensuring institutional development during Azerbaijan's chairmanship. The importance of developing cooperation in education, climate change, youth, media, transport links and many other areas was emphasized. The Minister stated that, taking into account the adoption of very important decisions on the global climate agenda within the framework of Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency, there is potential for projects within the framework of the CICA in the field of combating climate change.
Secretary General Kairat Sarybay stated that the program of his visit to Azerbaijan is quite extensive, including that the meetings with relevant institutions will be useful in terms of obtaining detailed information on topics of importance to the CICA and discussing the priorities of Azerbaijan's chairmanship.
The parties also exchanged views on other topics of mutual interest.
