Each day, 400,000 passengers enter the capital from the surrounding areas, and a program for expanding the railway services to serve these passengers is also planned, Anar Rzayev, the Chairman of the Board of the Land Transport Agency (AYNA), said at a meeting dedicated to transportation issues, APA reports.
He noted that the first step is to add trains to the Absheron circular railway and to prevent freight trains from entering the circular railway, the Guzdek-Garadagh railway is planned to be put into use: "Additionally, some existing but outdated and decommissioned railways will be restored. These include the Zabrat 2–Mashtagha–Baghlar–Albaly, Bakikhanov-Bina-Gala-Yeni Surakhani-Hovsan routes, which will help serve passenger traffic. In the next stage, it is planned to build a railway line from Yeni Surakhani to Heydar Aliyev International Airport so that the railway can provide service when passenger flow increases there."
