Kremlin avoids commenting on issue of Syria's Tartus port

The Kremlin did not comment on the reports about the new Syrian authorities cancelling an investment agreement with a Russian company to manage the Tartus seaport, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to the report, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the situation around the Tartus port and suggested to forward questions to the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.

"I am forwarding your question to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Peskov said in response to a question about whether the Kremlin could confirm the information about the cancellation of the contract and how this would affect Russia's presence in Syria.

It should be noted that, according to Riad Judi, the Tartus provincial Customs Director, the new Syrian authorities canceled the investment agreement on managing the Tartus seaport in 2019 with the Russian company.

Note that the Russian naval base is located in the Syrian port of Tartus.
