Azerbaijani MFA summons Iranian Chargé d'Affaires

Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan, Seyyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Press Service of the MFA told APA.

According to the information, during the meeting, protests were expressed against the recent campaign against Azerbaijan and the leadership of Azerbaijan in Iranian press organizations close to the government.

It was noted that, in particular, following the 16th meeting of the "State Commission on Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran" held in Tehran after a long break and fruitful official meetings,  the Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expressed an unfounded protest, and the expansion of the campaign in the Iranian press created misunderstanding.

In addition, it was brought to attention that instead of the apology of Imam of Friday Seyyid Hassan Ameli for the insulting statements made against Azerbaijan during the meeting in Ardabil, a campaign supporting Ameli was carried out, and a number of religious figures, including the Qazvin Imam of Friday, participated in anti-Azerbaijan activities, which was unacceptable.

It was emphasized that such steps are aimed at harming relations between the two countries and that it is necessary to prevent them.

The Iranian chargé d'affaires expressed regret over some unpleasant statements and actions and promised to bring the matter to the competent authorities of his country.
