Azerbaijan has identified sustainable development as one of the main priorities of its state policy, said Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Samad Bashirli during his speech at the “High-Level Strategic Prioritization” seminar on the Framework Document for Cooperation on Sustainable Development between the UN and Azerbaijan (2026-2030), APA-Economics reports.
He said that Azerbaijan has adopted the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrated them into state strategies. More than 50 state programs and strategies have been aligned with the SDGs, and the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development has been established. Azerbaijan has already submitted its 4th Voluntary National Report to the UN High-Level Forum. “Azerbaijan is taking strategic steps to build an economic model based on "green energy", digital economy, and innovations. "Smart City", "Smart Village" and "Green Energy Zone" concepts are being implemented in the liberated territories. Azerbaijan's initiative to recognize mine safety as the 18th SDG is a clear example of our policy aimed at sustainable development," the deputy minister noted.
Samad Bashirli also added that the Framework Document for 2021-2025, which is currently being implemented, includes four main priorities. These are inclusive growth, strong institutions, environmental protection, and gender equality. In recent years, projects worth 142 million US dollars have been implemented together with the UN.
