Official Moscow: Why Baku's opinion not taken into account in extending EUMA's term?

"Moscow's attitude towards the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) is negative," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this at a briefing today, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

Answering the question about the possibility of extending the stay of the EU mission in Armenia, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that the shootings on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is ongoing.

Zakharova stressed that the EU mission is an alien entity to the South Caucasus region: “We are confident that all the issues facing the South Caucasus can be resolved through the collective efforts of the countries of the region, without external interference. I would like to ask the following question: If the EU mission is so determined to achieve stability, why is the decision to extend its mandate, as well as the decision to deploy the mission during that time, made without Baku’s consent, why is the opinion of a regional player with a special interest in improving the situation in the region not taken into account?”
